Casio has developed a 2.0-inch a-Si TFT (amorphous silicon thin-film transistor) color liquid crystal display with a resolution of 960 x 540. Casio’s newly developed LCD is based on the company’s original HAST (hyper-amorphous silicon TFT) technology, which permits higher resolution and a higher aperture ratio.
The amount of transmissive light loss (which results from higher pixel density) has been reduced by adopting a new structure based on a wiring design involving multi-layered wiring for transistors and their surrounds. Despite a reduction in dot pitch to a small 15.5 micrometers (as opposed to the 23 micrometers in Casio’s current displays), it has been possible to maintain light aperture.
