Nokia N9 Breaks Cover, Maybe [Video]

MeeGo is a new mobile Operating System from the hive mind that is Nokia, as well as a few other major companies out there. And, while we’ve seen all sorts of demos over there at SlashGear, we’ve been waiting patiently over here, ’round these parts, before we get our coverage, due to the fact that up until now, it’s been mainly conjecture about being on a phone. Or, let alone a phone being announced. Until now, it seems. A new video’s popped up, showing what could be Nokia’s N9 — it certainly has the same approach, and looks a lot like the N900.

Nokia N900 Getting Software Updates 1.2

Nokia N900 has just got a new software update today in UK. The update is version 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1), comes with several improvements including email client, new Facebook IM chat and support video calling. There are also changes in the system menu and Ovi Map with the new finger friendly user interface. With UK being the first country to get the update, Nokia is releasing the software update globally tomorrow (Wednesday).

MeeGo build for N900 & Atom by end of March 2010

The team behind Nokia and Intel’s latest open-source endeavour, MeeGo, have revealed the first part of their release timeline, and it’s certainly ambitious.  According to Valtteri Halla – half of the MeeGo Technical Steering Group (TSG) – the team plans to open the MeeGo repository by the end of March 2010, with a basic source and binary repository to build the platform on Intel Atom devices and the Nokia N900.

We already know that MeeGo will include Qt, OBS and RPM.  According to Halla, much of the other technologies discussed in relation to the new platform are “still under discussion”:

“Further selections are mostly still under discussion and beyond a few obvious ones (X, connman, ofono, gstreamer, dbus,…) can be considered as working assumptions for MeeGo 1 release” Valtteri Hall, TSG, MeeGo

MeeGo brings together Nokia’s work on Maemo, the current OS for the N900, and Intel’s work on Moblin, the open-source OS for netbooks and other low-power devices.

The Maemo-powered Nokia N900 is now on sale in the United States and shipping to those who have placed a pre-order. With the Linux-based Maemo operating platform, 32GB of storage and multiple options of connectivity including access for 3G data networks, the Nokia N900 comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard and enables consumers the ability to personalize up to four different home screens as they wish. The Nokia N900 shipments have started

The shipments of the Nokia N900, Nokia’s latest mobile computer based on open source Maemo 5 software, have now started. The Nokia N900 will be available in retail stores in November with an estimated retail price of EUR 500, excluding sales taxes and subsidies.

Nokia introduces Lifecasting with Ovi

Today, at Nokia World 2009 in Stuttgart, Nokia CEO and President Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo says that Nokia expands in new directions where social Internet and music experience are the key factors.  “We are not only connecting people but also connecting world,” he said.

Nokia Unveils N900 Tablet with Maemo 5

Nokia has decided to announce its N900 tablet before the Nokia World next week, which featuring Linux-based Maemo software and a full touch screen. Running on the new Maemo 5 software, the Nokia N900 supports multi tasking and packs a powerful ARM Cortex-A8 processor, up to 1GB of application memory and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration. The Nokia N900 has 32GB of storage, which is expandable up to 48GB via a microSD card.
