Review of the smallest smartphone on the market! Reception: 4/5 bars. I have experienced very few problems with the SMT 5600’s reception. I have only had one experience where incoming audio quality was poor and one where the caller described my voice as “scratchy.” All in all, this phone has the second best reception of any phone I’ve used.
This phone probably has the best battery life of any smart phone on the market, but some its lower-end rivals can still make the Audivox SMT 5600’s battery life look a little weak. I did get just over 24 hours of fairly heavy use, but you definitely want to make sure there’s a charger handy if you’re away from home overnight. The battery life gets 4/5 bars, because I believe companies can make smartphones’ batteries last longer than they do now.
This is where the Audiovox SMT 5600 really shows its worth. The speed of the processor is excellent, and there is very little lag. If you use the task manager to kill seldom used applications on a regular basis, the phone should keep up a pretty good speed. If many applications are running, you will notice a slow down. No need to worry about MPx200 style slow downs on this powerhouse. Windows Mobile for Smartphone 2003 SE shows marked improvement over its predecessors. While the interface can sometimes be confusing, it is also a very robust operating system with almost unlimited potential for expandability. It is a good step away from proprietary carrier/manufacturer based operating systems. The appearance of the user interface is highly customizable, a must for those of us who want are phone to look as pretty as it feels. There is a great speed dial program that allows you to call up any contact or program via voice command or keyboard commands. The inclusion of Windows Media Player 10 in the SMT 5600 has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason! Media Player 10 will synchronize media files into you mini SD card, and can even be set to sync your favorite playlist. The player can also be customized to automatically convert your files to a format more appropriate for playback and storage in the Audiovox SMT 5600, all while keeping track of your purchased music with their Big Brother-style “Plays for Sure” feature. You can also change the skin on Media Player 10 if you feel the need.
