China MobileSoft Selects InterVideo Multimedia Technology for Its Linux-Based Smart Phone Designs

China MobileSoft (CMS) has selected InterVideo's iMobi video and audio codec technologies for its upcoming Linux smart phone embedded software designs.

Well-known for its superior codec technology, InterVideo's patented video codec algorithm allows consumers to record and playback high-quality, jitter-free video clips with ease. With InterVideo's next-generation technology for 3G cell phones and CMS's smart phone software, consumers will have outstanding video capabilities on their mobile phones.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), China is the largest mobile phone market in the world. The Chinese purchased, an increase of 15.8 percent over 2003, making IDC predicts that the market for mobile handsets will grow from sales of 92 million in 2004 to more than 400 million by 2009.

"The combination of CMS's Linux mobile phone design and InterVideo's innovative multimedia solution will help OEMs and ODMs differentiate their products while speeding time to market," said Jiping Wang, CEO of China MobileSoft. "We selected InterVideo because it is known worldwide for the quality of its products and has extensive experience in developing Linux multimedia software for some of the industry's leading manufacturers of high-end CE devices."

CMS has acquired by PalmSource and eventually PalmSource has acquired by ACCESS Co., Ltd. The company has also been developing a version of Linux optimized for mobile devices.
