Trolltech today released Qtopia Phone Edition 2.2, the first Linux-based Voice over IP (VoIP) software solution for mobile and wireless phones and converged media devices. Qtopia Phone 2.2, the latest version of Trolltech's application platform for Linux devices, also features performance improvements and enhanced user interface, multimedia and internationalization functionality.

Qtopia Phone is the only independent, open software solution for Linux-based devices. Qtopia Phone 2.2 is a turnkey application platform that lets manufacturers deliver IP telephony on Linux-based devices. It includes a reference integration of an open source VoIP application using session initiation protocol (SIP) and a framework that gives customers flexibility in their choice of SIP stack.

Qtopia Phone 2.2 includes additional updates and new features for the development of feature-packed, differentiated Linux mobile and wireless phones and devices, including:

  • Support for dual displays, application transparency and animated graphical user interface for an improved user experience
