The Jasper S20 is the first Java powered mobile phone to support an early access version of JSR-209 specifications, providing Java Platform Micro Edition application developers with the ability to create advanced user interfaces for mobile phones and devices using Swing and Java2D. The SavaJe-based Jasper S20 is manufactured by Group Sense Limited of Hong Kong and will first ship to Asia soon.

SavaJe is the first mobile platform to demonstrate JSR-209. Developed under the Java Community Process, JSR-209 is a set of specifications that include Advanced Graphics and User Interface Optional Package, previously available only in the Java Standard and Enterprise Editions. This allows application developers to utilize Swing, Java2D Graphics and Imaging, and Image I/O. The Jasper S20 design has an unique keypad layout with orange and white color scheme. The phone size is about the same as a normal windows mobile smartphone with a 5-way joystick at the center.

The usual short cut key to access volume control, camera application can be found at the side. miniSD card slot is available to expand the file storage space.

The Jasper S20 has a 1.3 megapixel camera and can be connected to your pc throught the mini USB connector. Like other smartphone, the built in application is good enough for most of the IM communication. Media player support various media files like MP3 and mpeg clips. The phone was announced in May, although we have yet to see the product availability date.
