SavaJe Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce that Release 2.5 of SavaJe OS, SavaJe Technologies' Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME)-based open operating system, is now shipping to mobile handset manufacturers.
First commercial handsets using SavaJe OS will ship into the Asian market in early 2006. In addition, LG Electronics is demonstrating and promoting a handset based on SavaJe OS to operators worldwide, and is ready to mass-produce handsets to operator specifications for delivery in 2006. SavaJe OS 2.5 is an advanced open operating system for mid tier and high tier handsets, based on Sun Microsystems' Java technology. The product supports immediate deployment of 2.5G GPRS and EDGE-based handsets, as well as development of 3G WCDMA/UTMS-based devices. Key benefits of the OS include support for open Java standards, scalability and portability, easy customization, and advanced security features. Open Java standards based on Java Micro Edition CLDC and CDC specifications allow access to over 4 million Java developers, and enable the easy development of applications and services using standard 3rd party Java development tools. The operating system has been designed to be both portable and scalable, allowing SavaJe OS to be easily used across a wide range of handsets implementing both todays multimedia phone feature set, as well as meeting the needs of next generation standards for telephony and wireless networking. The consumer-oriented user interface and phone applications suite, included with SavaJe OS, are completely written in Java, allowing easy and rapid customization by the handset manufacturer and operator to meet the needs of specific market segments. SavaJe OS leverages the industry-proven Java desktop security platform to offer a comprehensive set of security features that enable SavaJe OS handsets to be flexibly configured to meet the increasing demanding security requirements of manufacturers, operators and content providers. The OS integrates a highly optimized Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that supports full multi-tasking and the ability to simultaneously run multiple Java applications (both CLDC MIDlets and CDC Xlets). Key handset applications such as telephony are prioritized to ensure an excellent phone experience for the user. Multi-tasking allows SavaJe OS-based feature phones to support music playback or other background activities, simultaneously with messaging, gaming or browsing. Pages (2): [1] 2 » ... Last » |
