Symbian Limited announced that Symbian OS was selected by NTT DoCoMo, Inc. for the development of a common software platform for FOMA 3G mobile phones.
NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu Limited have developed the Symbian OS-based common software platform for FOMA in partnership. The first phone developed on this platform is the newly-launched FOMA F901iC which is part of the new FOMA 901i series. Since becoming a Symbian OS licensee, Fujitsu has developed seven Symbian OS-based handsets for NTT DoCoMo's FOMA service. By using open standards-based Symbian OS, Fujitsu has achieved rapid time to market and cost-effective development of functionality-rich 3G smartphones.
