Motorola Electronics has been awarded a frame contract to expand and upgrade cellular and radio access networks for Maxis Communications Bhd ("Maxis").

Maxis today has more than 5.12 million mobile subscribers throughout Malaysia. Motorola first started installing Maxis' GSM system 10 years ago, and in 2001 installed its GPRS wireless data network.

Motorola's experience and expertise in building and maintaining telecommunications networks will enable Maxis to chart a smooth migration path to 3G." said John Edwards, Vice President and General Manager for Motorola's Infrastructure business in Asia.
