Nokia N-Gage QD......more or less?

Following our breaking news on a forthcoming release of Nokia's N-Gage 2 we today confirm that it is definitely in the making, and it seems clear that its "not an N-Gage 2 but an additional device called N-Gage QD"  (quaqua die) which is Latin for every day. Although it is still a new N-Gage and will probably get labelled "2" by users familiar to the original. The main difference which is instantly obvious is the build, it has been re-designed smaller and  to be more "ergonomic" for gaming and the ability to change games easier (hot-swappable MMC slot) also the battery life is claimed to have been extended. Otherwise there seems to be no major hardware changes. The Processor is ARM9 104mhz and there is no dedicated 3D graphics processor. The N-Gage QD will still use the Nokia 60 series platform and symbian OS.

Features:
  • 176x208 pixel screen with upto 4096 colours
  • Bluetooth wireless technology
  • 8 way directional game controller
  • Multimedia Messaging capabilities
  • Dual-Band (2 variants: GSM 900/1800 and GSM 850/1900)
  • GPRS
  • E-mail and personal information management
  • XHTML Browsing
  • JavaTM application support
  • PC connectivity for synchronization
  • Battery life: Gaming - 5 to 10 hrs dependant on game type, 5hrs talk time and 11 days standby-by
  • Volume: 123cc
  • Dimensions: (L x W x D) 118 x 68 x 22 (mm)
  • Weight: 143g

Unfortunately this version does not have MP3 player or FM Radio but will be still sold along side original N-gage so consumers will have to decide which version suits their needs. The games are fully backwards compatible and will both link over Bluetooth for 2 player gaming. There is no in-built or add on camera available for N-Gage QD but you can capture, store and send an image via mms using the "screenshot application" All things considered this another well designed and built Nokia, gaming machine but if you have N-Gage 1 why upgrade to a less functional model?  You may ask yourselves why not release this less equipped version first, I am........?
