Smartfone.NET's independent resource support Prom1 over at Brighthand's claim that T-Mobile is going to be the carrier for the iPAQ 6300.
There is one piece of update to the price of the iPAQ model 6315(with camera). Our independent resource informed us that the price for the iPAQ 6315 most likely will cost $499.99 TOTALLY subsidized.
Prom1 over at Brighthand revealed detail information dealing with the iPAQ's handling of GPRS in Wi-Fi HotSpots, MMS settings, and Bluetooth file transfer which was posted in Brighthand 's forum. The detail information suggests that the 'Connect to Server' drop down box should be set to 'T-Mobile USA'. We have reasons to believe that this information is accurate.
Detail information:
" GPRS dropped when Hotspot encountered but not other Wi-Fi access points - HP iPAQ h6300
This behaviour is by design. HotSpot locations have their SSID preloaded into the iPAQ and will preferentially take over from a GPRS connection while the iPAQ remains within range of the HotSpot. Any other type of Wi-Fi access point will not have SSIDs pre-loaded and will not automatically take over from GPRS.
How to confirm MMS settings for WAP transport, retrieval and size options - HP iPAQ h6300
The iPAQ h6300 should come pre-configured with all the correct MMS settings. To confirm them and adjust some options, here is what to do:
- Start the Inbox program.
- In the upper left corner, tap on the drop down menu and select the MMS folder, Inbox.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Tools, MMS Settings.
- Examine the five different settings in the Preferences tab.
- The 'Connect Via' drop down box should be set to 'The WAP Network'.
- The 'Connect to Server' drop down box should be set to 'T-Mobile USA'.
- The check mark box 'Retrieve Messages Immediately' can be set as preferred.
- Size Limitations can be set to 20K, 40K, 100K, 150K and 480K.
NOTE: the higher the setting, the longer the sending process and the greater the risk of failure. Files larger than 100 Kilobytes may be more easy to ActiveSync than to send via MMS. - The number of attempts before aborting an MMS send operation can be set from 1 to 5.
- Tap on the Servers tab at the bottom of the screen.
- T-Mobile USA should be listed as the one and only server.
- A brief, quick tap on the T-Mobile USA title will bring up the settings for it.
NOTE: a tap and hold on the name will bring up a context menu offering 'New' and 'Delete'. Do not select either of these. - Confirm the default MMS setings. They should be:
• Server Name = T-Mobile USA
• Gateway = 216.155.165.50
• Server Address = http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
NOTE: the trailing portion of this URL may not be visible. Tap inside the Server Address box and then press the 5 way key pad to the right to scroll through the whole string of text. - If T-Mobile USA is not present, tap and hold anywhere on the blank area of the screen until a context menu pops up.
- Select New.
- Enter in the same settings given above, taking care to get each character correct.
NOTE: if the iPAQ is hard reset, the default T-Mobile USA MMS settings entry will be re-made. - Tap the OK button.
