MPx Pocket PC Phone will retail for 749 euro - approximately USD$920, or AUD$1240, not accounting for typical variations in price between countries - while the MPx100 Smartphone will sell for 469 euro - about AUD$780 or USD$575.

Matt M over at MTekk reports on pricing for the next generation of Windows Mobile based phones from Motorola ...

Following on from our previous story of the specifications for Motorola's forthcoming MPx and MPx100, pricing has now been announced for the Windows Mobile 2003 based devices. The MPx Pocket PC Phone will retail for 749 euro - approximately USD$920, or AUD$1240, not accounting for typical variations in price between countries - while the MPx100 Smartphone will sell for 469 euro - about AUD$780 or USD$575.

Certainly these prices are reasonably close to Australian prices for current devices on the market. Add 10% GST to the quoted price, and it's more or less exactly what the XDA II and MPx200 recommended retail prices represent. It's sad that pricing for Australia doesn't look like it will be coming down anytime soon, but that's the price of a niche product. When - more accurately, if - the devices become more mainstream, we should hopefully start seeing far more competitive pricing. Given the rumour that the MPx and MPx100 will hit Australia in Q3 of this year, I doubt that this will happen by then.

Still - anyone want to buy a used XDA II? It'll be available just as soon as I get my MPx ...
