Samsung seems not to be the only company filing for Patent’s to develop new phones, but LG has also gotten in on the action. LG electronics recently filed a patent for a Drawer-Type Cell Phone which will contain system configuration to simultaneously slide an attached cover and extend the antenna. In an effort to keep the design simple, LG designed the phone to be activated by the simple push off a button which would control a small magnet which latches or unlatches to keep the phone shut.

The patent claims to improve structural imperfections on current mobile phones because of their compact design.  The design claims that the distance from one’s ear to mouth is much longer than the distance from the average cell phone’s distance from ear piece to microphone.  The drawer phone attempts to solve this problem with its sliding accessibility to customize to the user’s face with its easy one press extractable usage. 

Improved reception is also an added detail with an external antenna for active cell phone usage and internal when left unoccupied.  Aside from re-configuring the draw to more accurately match one’s face the draw serves to protect the cell phone’s LCD screen from scratches or other damage the phone might sustain.  No details have yet been released what features the phone will include, when, or if a drawer phone is set to be even manufactured.  It goes to show that a constructive imagination and clear vision may set forth the next latest trend in mobile devices.
