A teenager was sentenced to six months in custody today after taking photos and video footage in court with his mobile phone.

Shaun Nash, 19, was sitting in the public gallery at the opening of the robbery trial of his friend at Bristol Crown Court on November 11 when he was spotted by a juror.

Judge Michael Roach halted proceedings and police came in and arrested Nash for contempt of court. Robert Davies, prosecuting, said he had been opening the case when a juror informed the usher that Nash was taking photos or filming from the public gallery.

The opening was abandoned, Nash was arrested, the phone was recovered and found to contain two still photographs and a series of short films.
