Voice interface for mobile phones has new features, more languages — available to mobile phone equipment and design manufacturers and end users

Looks like I need to get a copy of this software for a review.  It really looks great on paper, but would need to field test it for accuracy.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (May 6, 2004) Fonix® Corporation (OTC BB: FNIX), an industry leader in delivering conversational speech solutions to consumer systems and devices for everyday use, announces the release of Fonix VoiceDial™ 2.0, the most intuitive, user-friendly speech interface software solution for mobile phones. Original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can license VoiceDial for a per-unit royalty fee. End users may download the software for $15.95 at www.fonix.com.

Fonix VoiceDial is our award-winning hands-free software application that enables users to simply speak the name or number to call, without pushing buttons or scrolling through menus. Our convenient voice interface accurately recognizes spoken names and numbers, even in noisy environments. VoiceDial confirms user commands with our easy-to-understand text-to-speech (TTS).

Convenience, safety and mobility

Fonix VoiceDial offers convenient features including continuous dialing response (users speak at their usual speed and cadence), unlimited contact list size, customized pronunciation (improves accuracy where needed) and speaker independence (no voice training required).

“As we have worked with device manufacturers like Hitachi and HTC their focus is on providing an easy-to-use, safe voice interface solution,” says Tim K. Hong, vice president of Fonix Mobile Wireless. “VoiceDial’s hallmark features are its high degree of accuracy in noisy environments and high intelligibility. With version 2.0, we’ve significantly optimized the product, making it even better.”

VoiceDial 2.0 enhancements:

  • Customers may now choose from multiple languages including English, German, French and Spanish.

  • Version 2.0’s support for both TTS and recorded prompts allows users to choose the most efficient and intelligible interface for their device.

  • This upgraded version supports screen rotation (either Landscape or Portrait display) for added convenience.

  • The VoiceDial 2.0 user interface is scalable for optimal device screen size.

  • Users can minimize the interface so that it does not obscure information on the screen.

  • Users can use their voice to access contacts on the device’s SIM card as well as in their Contacts list.

  • Support for TTS on Smartphone devices. (Previously, the Smartphone version only allowed for recorded prompts, now TTS increases the usability for Smartphone users.)

  • VoiceDial 2.0 consolidates former Premium, Standard and Compact versions into one low-memory, cost-effective version.
