Tired of the built in data entry methods for your XDA II / i-mate? Mike from MTekk gives us the low-down on some alternatives ...

O2 XDA II Alternative Input Methods Overall Score

Verdict:

Obviously choosing input software for your XDA is a very personal decision and one only you can make, I just hope that this review will give you both options and some guidance. Firstly, I would like to see the software having more than the typical 14 day trial period, two weeks is far too short to assess a piece of software like this especially when trying to do a realistic comparison between many.

For me, I suspect I shall end up with both WordLogic and Full Screen Keyboard on my XDA - each has its strengths and weaknesses and I think they will compliment each other well, FSB is also excellent value at under ten dollars US.

TenGO has an attraction too, to be fair, but I found its weak dictionary, poor exception handling and apparent lack of learning a weakness - I'll continue to try it for the remaining five days I can use it but don't expect to be buying it.

I would have liked the opportunity to get better aquainted with Fitaly, I can get that it could be be quite effective but again the trial period is too short. Quikwriter is another I'd like to try again is only for the experience. The only one I would not remotely consider is Resco which I think would frankly be a waste is money.

FSB 9/10
WordLogic 9/10
TenGO 7/10
Fitaly 5/10
Quikwriter N/A
Resco 3/10

Disagree with the score? Want to add more? Discuss it on the Forums Mike's Scores:!

[p.s. The conclusion was written using a mixture of WordLogic and TenGO p.p.s I cheated and gave the whole review a final once over on a full size keyboard on the PC]

[Matt's Note: I then mucked it all up by reformatting a little for the website. But I promise the original looked very nice! Because of the multiple products reviewed, it's not possible to include a "Good" and "Bad" scorecard. An excellent review though, and much appreciated!]

[Matt's Note 2: Revised to include screenshots of the various keyboard. Thanks to Pocket PC Thoughts for their screenshot which I've used]
