sclui56 from howardforums had his mpx220 flashed to a newer version. The old manufacturer version is .325 and the newer version is .342

The upgrade did solve the volume issues according to sclui56 but the camera issues is remain the same. Here is a note from bestbuy internal

Also a screenshot of the updated system information. The only difference is the manufacturer version

Will the firmware available online? amg212 from howardforums called motorola and got this info

"With respect to the volume issue, that is, indeed, resolved in the .342 firmware. At this point, the only way to get it is to either do a warranty exchange or wait until Cingular pushes the upgrade out to their stores (which she couldn't promise they'd do). She did confirm that Cingular has the upgrade and is flashing handsets in the warehouses.

A second firmware upgrade has been completed by Motorola and is currently being QA'ed by Cingular with acceptance predicted in the upcoming week. This upgrade is expected to resolve the issues of the phone freezing on shutdown (no more yanking the battery!)

A third upgrade is expected to go to Cingular in about a week - that one specifically addresses the lack of a functioning voicemail icon in the NY market (and, apparently Washington DC).

These ROM updates are expected to be cumulative, so she recommended waiting a few weeks to get the phone flashed or swapped.

Finally, she said there have been LOTS of requests for user-installable flash files. She indicated that Motorola recognizes the uniqueness of this phone in that everyone who has it already has a USB data cable. The engineers are working on a wrap-around program for the ROM files which will, hopefully, allow them to post updates on a website (like they do for other non-cellular hardware) and permit users to update their own phones without needing special software or needing any special expertise. This is an area where she sounded hopeful, but couldn't give me any degree of certainty as to timing."

So hopefully  the firmware will be available online for those who purchased the unit and brought it oversea.
