Taiwan's Quanta Computer was selected to produce the next version of Apple's iPhone. Chinese language newspaper Commercial Times reported this morning that Quanta Computer had landed a contract to produce five million second-generation iPhones, with production to start in September of this year. Shares of Quanta Computer soared early Tuesday. Its share price inched up 0.4 percent to close at NT$50.8 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The world's biggest contract maker of notebook computers, Quanta counts Dell Inc and Hewlett-Packard Co among its major clients. The company is supposedly slated to ship 5 million units by September of this year, marking a shift from the current iPhone manufacturer, Foxconn/Hon Hai.
