Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 wireless wide area network card for HSDPA networks is now available in Canada from Rogers Wireless. The AirCard 860 is designed to operate on Rogers' new high-speed HSDPA network, launched today in the Golden Horseshoe area of Southern Ontario.
The AirCard 860 wireless wide area network card is available immediately at all Rogers Wireless locations. Fido customers will be able to purchase the card starting November 24, 2006. Pricing starts at $49.99 with a three-year term. The first phase of Rogers’ HSDPA network coverage includes the Golden Horseshoe area from Oshawa to Niagara Falls, including the Greater Toronto Area, Newmarket, Hamilton, and St. Catharines. Outside of the HSDPA network coverage area, the AirCard 860 will connect to Rogers’ nationwide EDGE and GPRS/GSM network and will seamlessly upgrade to HSDPA service when network coverage is available. The AirCard 860 is a 3G wireless WAN Type II PC Card with a slim, unextended design, allowing users to conveniently store the card inside the laptop with the antenna attached. Fully functional on HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS networks, the AirCard 860 utilizes the 850 and 1900 MHz UMTS frequency bands common to North American UMTS networks, offering average data rates of 600 kbps to 1 Mbps on Rogers’ HSDPA network. In areas where HSDPA network coverage is not available, these cards will connect to EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks and enable international roaming on all four frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz) used worldwide. |
