Nobody likes being cut off from the speed and convenience of broadband while away from the office. Unsurprisingly, demand for 'anytime, anywhere' mobile broadband that really works is large and growing daily. Working with network partner T-Mobile, Sony VAIO has developed a solution which offers exactly that to customers in the UK, Germany and Austria. The new VAIO SZ3-Series provides the platform of world class ultra-mobile technology on which everything rests. Next-generation ExpressCard hardware adds super-fast 3.6Mbps mobile broadband connectivity to an already impressive package.

Sony VAIO selected the new SZ3-Series as the model to debut the T-Mobile collaboration. This is a statement business ultraportable, available with a unique carbon fibre chassis. It’s also the only notebook in the world with two graphics chipsets, enabling users to opt for extended battery life or huge graphics power depending on what they need. The core specification delivers exceptional performance with Intel Core 2 Duo processors options right up to the heavy-hitting T7400, backed by up to 2GB of memory.

With features including integrated Motion Eye webcam, fingerprint recognition, TPM security and even hard disk drop detection, the SZ3-Series represents a pinnacle of notebook technology. The WAN hardware itself is an evolutionary step. Instead of the old-style PC Card approach, next-generation HSDPA ExpressCard technology was chosen. ExpressCard offers clear advantages, including lower power consumption for longer battery life and a robust Plug and Play user experience untroubled by issues with device detection, 'surprise removes', or recovery from Standby/Hibernate modes.

The ExpressCard can use everything from the original GSM/GPRS to UTMS (3G) and the new high-speed HSDPA networks. HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Address) networks are the real future for mobile broadband, with 1.8Mbps connection speeds already available and 3.6Mbps going into service gradually.
