Samsung Techwin, a subsidiary of Samsung that manufactures capital equipment for the semiconductor, digital imaging, aviation, and defense industries, said on Monday that it developed the slimmest-ever mobile phone camera module supporting 3x optical zoom and auto focus. The thickness of the module is only 9mm, the slimmest of its kind, Samsung said.

The new camera module has a 3 megapixel resolution, with a 9mm thickness. While chasing for the megapixel limit, Samsung has also added the 3x optical zoom capability in the smaller module. The camera module production will be started in this year.
