New software updates give VoIP capability to Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.

The features of the introduced OS 2006 edition include support for rich Internet communications, including pre-installed Google Talk - all on a portable broadband mobile device. Google Talk is Google's free instant messaging service that enables people to chat and make calls through the Internet.

The upgraded platform can also support SIP based VoIP solutions for broadband business benefit. Standalone software applications, like the popular Gizmo Project by SIPPhone Inc, is planned to be available for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. The Gizmo Project has a rich feature set including the capability to make and receive calls from public telephony networks.

Other improvement includes:

Web browser

• username & password auto-fill for web forms and servers
• address bar URL auto-completion

Audio Player

• support for Windows Media Audio (WMA) local playback

Video Player

• 3GPP, MPEG and AVI streaming provided with HTTP progressive downloading

RSS feed reader

• new functional Home applet with feeds preview
• embedded images support
• OPML support

Contacts

• new system wide Contacts application

Application Manager

• new Application Manager with support for application catalogues

Hildon Desktop

• user configurable Task Navigator and Home view
• new Home applets for Internet search and quick Internet calling
• widget improvements, e.g. movable columns used in various applications, like RSS feed reader & E-mail

The internet tablet was announced last year, but users are complaining with its poor battery life and cpu power. This new updates do not fix all the issues, will Nokia 770 users happy with it?
