Samsung a leading manufacturer in cell phones which may forever revolutionize the way people communicate through e-mail, instant message, and text messages over there mobile phone. When most of us think of writing using our mobile phone we picture having to press a button several times, scrolling through tons of characters before arriving at the needed letter or number. With everything from fold out key boards to predictive text display it seems Samsung has arrived at a breakthrough answer, a virtual screen.

Writing messages through the virtual screen will replicate the experience of writing down on a normal piece of paper and pen.  According to the patent, characters will be drawn on a projective visual screen that will mount on a flat surface from the phone.  The screen will come with an electronic pen, and users simply write messages as they normally would.  The pen is set to have a built-in recognition algorithm detector which will be able to recognize a pattern of writing and enter it as a character onto the system.

The virtual screen is supposed to replicate the same screen that users would typically encounter on their mobile phone when creating a message.  The screen will have all the various menu options that are available, including menu/toolbar options and scrolling.  The pen communicates with the mobile phone through a infrared or ultrasonic signal.  Any motion or change in the position of the pen is immediately emitted back to the phone appearing instantly on the virtual screen for users to see.

An idea that also seems to be part of the package is character recognition software allowing users to even create and store drawings into their phone as well.  It appears that Samsung has taken major strides to upgrade their cell phone technology to levels that even Tablet PC’s are only beginning to touch on.
