Brain Murmurs has announced Pulse, a Bluetooth application for the RIM Blackberry that allows the device to be used as a dialup networking modem. Dialup networking is commonly used to access the internet from a laptop while away from the office network or wifi hotspots. Dialup networking-enabled cell phones can act as virtual modems for the computer, providing reliable internet access through the phone's connection to its carrier network. Pulse allows Windows users to share their Blackberry internet access wirelessly and is also supporting Mac users. "I've used Bluetooth dialup networking with my Sony Ericsson phone before. Finally, Pulse lets me use my Blackberry 8700 and my Macbook the same way" said Garrett Kelly, a senior engineer at Brain Murmurs. "I like to have it around for those emergency situations when you're outside the range of a standard wireless connection, or just for surfing when I'm waiting around for someone." Pulse requires a Bluetooth-enabled Blackberry with standard internet access and a Bluetooth-enabled PC or Macintosh to work. The application can be purchased in advance for 50% off and will be available for general sale at full cost by the end of October.
