As previously reported, the Motorola MPx200 is steadily being released to countries in the Asia-Pacific region. So far we've seen releases in Singapore and Indonesia, and an article in The Star Online indicates that the device has now been launched in Malaysia.

As previously reported, the Motorola MPx200 is steadily being released to countries in the Asia-Pacific region. So far we've seen releases in Singapore and Indonesia, and an article in The Star Online indicates that the device has now been launched in Malaysia.

Little detail is available on the specifics of the launch, but the products which were included were the Motorola V760, MPx200, V690, V868, C550 and HS810 Bluetooth Headset. It's unfortunate that no detail is available on whether the device is running the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003 based operating systems, but I am inclined to assume the former.

According to the article, Motorola "aims to capture a global market share of 23%-25% by year-end". Motorola representative Eric Chong is quoted: “Motorola currently has about 16%-19% global market share. In the first nine months of 2003, Motorola sold 70 million mobile phones throughout the world ... Hence we are confident of hitting the bull's eye."

Interesting, and great to see a mobile phone company including a Windows based device in these plans. We remain hopeful to see a release to Australia very soon, and possibly even this month if rumours are correct.
