O2 Asia have updated their XPhone website to include Australia on the Where To Buy list. The only retailer listed is Harris Technologies - although it seems that the XPhone has actually I'm inclined to speculate that this move by O2 is probably a reaction to Carrier Devices release of the i-mate Smartphone2 to Australia, which seems to have engendered some strong interest and response from consumers already. Bear in mind that the i-mate Smartphone 2 is the same Windows Mobile 2003 based phone as the O2 Xphone (both are built to HTC Voyager specifications), and so it's actually something O2 have missed the boat on to some extent. I wouldn't be terribly surprised - if Harris and other retailers are still planning to carry the phone - to see it very soon, in spite of the estimated date of March 31. After all, if the i-mate Smartphone2 is on the market for too long without any competition, O2 might as well not bother. |
