Matt M reviews his XDA II after a full month of usage - has his opinion changed? Read and find out ...

Summing Up

I have to say, my opinion has changed very little and the majority of my concerns are niggling little issues. I definitely think it's a great device, and a massive improvement over the previous model. I am convinced that HTC learnt many lesssons from the original model, as well as the Smartphones, and this does show. In some ways, the problems I've encountered have  been very much a result of perhaps an over-eagerness to get the device to market, and I feel that if ROM updates resolve the majority of problems, it will go down as the best Windows Mobile device yet released. All in all, it's a sign of a promising future for this form factor.

O2 XDA II Overall Score

Good:

  • Almost everything about the device smacks of a lot of careful thought and effort
  • Excellent performance
  • Great features
  • Excellent screen
  • Removable battery, with backup to permit replacing the battery "on the move"
  • Bluetooth functionality and ability to add SDIO cards (such as WLAN 802.11b) helps achieve almost a complete wireless experience
  • Radio stack is far more resilient
  • Good camera operation, for what it is

Bad:

  • Price quite high, limiting the target market
  • Case is annoying
  • Minor radio stack bugs
  • Issues with bluetooth headsets
  • Other bugs and issues, some more seriouos than others
  • No screen protectors included
  • Stylus is a little easy to lose
  • Accessory availability has not been followed up soon enough

Verdict:

I am very happy with the phone. I think this followup review does highlight the majority of my concerns, and I can't help but lower the score slightly given these concerns. However, it still earns a very good score in my opinion.

Matt's Score : 8 / 10
