MPx200.org seems to have set in motion a storm of speculation, according to Matt M ... If the iPAQ Phone Edition gets confirmed, it will be a huge story - and don't we all know it. Certainly everyone - including us - is having their own say about it. We saw the gossip about the iPAQ h6000 some months back, and one little article seems to have revived it with a vengeance. This is kind of a round up of some of the more notable articles I've seen. Pocket PC Thoughts commented , but then pointed us to this interesting article at iPAQabilities (read it in full here ): " We've seen a lot of different iPAQ Pocket PC's being launched first by Compaq, and now by HP. Unless HP has a best kept iPAQ secret under wraps, presumably, the next iPAQ Pocket PC to be released should be the much acclaimed H6000 series. This iPAQ would have a 3.5 inch transflective display with 65000 colours, an integrated VGA camera, SDIO slot, a removable 1850mAH Lithium Ion battery, 64MB RAM/64MB ROM, Bluetooth (v 1.1), WLAN 802.11b, and Quad-band GSM/GPRS (class 10) built-in. This iPAQ will apparently be roughly the same size of the H2200 series and more specifically, should be released in March 2004. Although there has been no clear mention of which processor it will use, there is a lot of speculation that HP will be using the OMAP processor from Texas Instruments. One fact that remains unknown is the speed and specifically which processor will be used in this iPAQ Pocket PC. " PDALive! commented (read it in full here ): " According to MPx200.org, either AT&T or Tmobile is planning to release a new ?big? smartphone, a PDA with phone capabilities like the Treo 600 by palmOne. All we know is that the smartphone will be manufactured by HP and labeled under the iPAQ brand. The device will probably have a QWERTY keyboard but it?s yet unknown whether it will be a plug-in or an integrated one. Other specifications are currently unavailable. At the moment the device is rumored to have passed the FCC approval, but the official FCC site has no info on the point. Could it be the highly anticipated iPAQ h6000? Nobody knows for sure. However, additional details have been promised to be available on Monday. The first ever smartphone by HP is rumored to have built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and quad-band GSM/GPRS (class 10). Apparently the h6000 will run the Phone Edition of Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphones. It will have a 3.5-inch 16-bit transflective screen, 64 MB of RAM, the same amount of ROM and a Texas Instruments OMAP processor of unknown speed, a built-in 640 by 480 pixels digital camera, a SDIO slot and an 1850 mAh swappable battery. It is rumored to be available in March 2004. " BargainPDA had their own sources (read it in full here ): " It?s not clear which direction HP will take but they will either release a Smartphone or Pocket PC Phone Edition at some point in the next six months or so. Their handheld team indicated the form factor will almost certainly be a clamshell design, which seems to be gathering quite a bit of steam lately. Based on our conversation, don?t expect the phone to build on the h5450 design and functionality. They?re quite pleased with the reception of the h5450 in the corporate markets and probably will not release an updated model for quite a while. " Hmm. Do all roads lead to phone? Perhaps, but we've been down this road before. Let's hope this time it's for real. Source: MTekk |
