Kevin L from MTekk gives us his take on a different offering in the mobile arena ...As an IT Manager, I was always looking for a way to make life easier for myself. And I get to play with all the cool toys. Somehow, I missed the whole PDA craze – no Palm, no iPaq, nothing. However, I have always had the latest mobile phones – 5110 in 1997, 7110 in 1999, 6110 in 2001. I also carry two phones at all times – one for personal and another for work, being the 24-hour contact.

Differences

A lot of the features are far more developed than a standard Nokia or similar.

• The contact list (names and addresses) can have unlimited data fields, of a variety of types – phone, mobile and email all either personal or work related, as well as space for home and work addresses, company names, job title and a reference web address. You can also have TWO numbers, per person, with a voice recognition tag. This can be exported in a variety of formats for easy integration to your PC address book. Also, you can add free typed notes to a person, choose an individual ringtone PER PERSON, and add a picture to be displayed when they call/are called. Tied with another feature, the voice recorder, you can rope the person in to saying something, record it, and have THAT as their ring tone – my favourite is a good friend saying “Answer the phone!” in his deep voice. Quite freaky if you are sitting quietly!
• The phone has email. I don’t mean you can, through portals and jumping through hoops, get some form of email, I mean you can send and receive fully featured emails to the phone, with it’s own email address user@three.com.au , complete with incoming and outgoing POP/SMTP server. You still have to set external email up on the web, but once done, it sends and receives flawlessly.
• The calendar is powerful. It supports importing from your master PC calendar, has alarms, repetition, description, repetition, ability to dial numbers from the content entered, repetition, and location fields.
• The phone has a mini browser that allows you to browse 3 delivered content. It’s currently not a web browser though, so if you are looking for an all-in-one browser and remote-execution machine, this is not it at the moment. Until I find a way around the restrictions ;-)
