Vodafone Plans Mobile Phone Price War in Australia

SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--Vodafone Group PLC (VOD) is planning to launch a price war in Australia, the Australian newspaper reports Monday.

Vodafone's price war could make the cost of calls from mobile telephones to be the same as land-line local calls, the report says, adding that this could hurt its major rivals; Telstra Corp. (TLS) and the Optus unit of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (P.SGT).
