Motorola introduced three new handsets on today that take advantage of the "walkie-talkie" like features. The V400p is a clamshell, quad-band GSM, or global system cellphone with a built in speakerphone, dedicated 'push to talk' or PTT button and integrated 640 x 480 digital camera with a 4x zoom. There is 5MB of user-accessible memory to store contact details, emails, messages and pictures. It supports MIDI, MP3 and WAV ringtones. Motorola also introduced two new CDMA PTT phones, or code division multiple access, the T300p and V65p. The T300p targets to the more rugged users, while the V65p will be offered for those looking for a little elegance, Motorola says. Motorola said it is committed to “enabling multi-vendor interoperability for push- to-talk,” and that it is working with the Open Mobile Alliance to develop global PTT standards. Details on release date and pricing for the two CDMA phones were not disclosed. In an unrelated news, Motorola signed a licensing deal with Internet browser company Opera Software. Motorola said it will install Opera’s browser on “multiple” Motorola handsets and would also resell the Opera Platform. This service will allow operators to remotely update the home screens of their subscribers’ phones. The Opera browser's code is small enough to fit on a mobile phone, Boilesen said. "So you can go to any site on the Internet and browse it. Small-screen rendering technology reformats the content on the fly so that it fits. There's no horizontal scrolling, just up and down," he said. Boilesen also mentioned that Opera will most likely be incorporated into handsets based on the Linux and Symbian operating systems. |
