Nokia is starting to ship Edge phones into some European countries, but will not reveal full list of which ones. Map of Edge deployment as of 24th November, 2003.

 

 

 

Nokia 7700

The Nokia 7700, a WAN handheld, is powered by Nokia's most recent Symbian OS based platform, Series 90, and features several Nokia firsts including a landscape-oriented touch screen.

The Nokia 7700 features a 16-bit colour display, capable of displaying up to 65,536 colours at a resolution of 640 x 320 pixels. The display also offers a special partial mode which enables a 640 x 65 pixel area only for reduced power consumption. Additional features include music and video playback and streaming, an integrated VGA camera, FM radio, multimedia messaging support, as well as a full complement of personal information management features.

Nokia 6620

Nokia in the USA has announced the new 6620 model for the North American market, supporting bands 850Mhz and 1900Mhz. Unlike the 6600 the North American model offers the new EDGE data capability.

EDGE allows for download speeds of nearly twice that of current GPRS devices. Nokia has also doubled the internal RAM from 6MB to 12MB
Real Networks has also included their Real One Video player.

Motorola T725

08.01.03 - Motorola announced today a wide range of new handsets including their first EDGE terminal, the T725.

The new tri-band model, similar to the T720 measures 90X47.5X23mm and weighs just 101g. It incorporates a dual LCD display, internal 120X160 pixels, 4096 colours, CSTN display screen and external 96X32 pixels LCD display screen.

With optional camera attachment the T725 becomes MMS compatible.

Nokia 6200

Nokia, at COMDEX 2002 in Las Vegas , revealed its new GSM/EDGE mobile phone, the 6200. Nokia claims that is the world's first 3GPP compliant EDGE (Enhanced Data-Rates for GSM Evolution) handset, and also the first to incorporate the 850, 1800 and 1900 MHz GSM bands in one terminal.

With the Nokia 6200 EDGE handset, users are able to download content, applications, access Internet and intranet information quickly and efficiently at data rates approximately two times (up to 118 kbps) that of conventional dial up (56 kbps). Personal data from the calendar, address book and to-do lists can also be remotely synchronized over the air with a network server or locally with a PC using IR (infrared) or an optional data cable to keep vital information up to date.

The 6200 has a 128 x 128 resolution, 4096 12-bit colour display. It measures 106 x 45 x 19 and weighs 80g.

The Nokia 6200 phone also features an enhancement connector designed to support advanced functionalities such as digital accessory identification, stereo audio or fast data connectivity. The addition of the optional Nokia Camera Headset lets you capture and share images
