DataViz has released an update to RoadSync, its Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync enabled client. RoadSync now supports select mobility features of Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on Symbian OS.

Based on the Exchange Server 2003 ActiveSync protocol licensed directly from Microsoft, RoadSync offers secure, wireless, direct push synchronization of corporate Outlook e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts for non-Microsoft smartphones and mobile devices, including the popular Sony Ericsson P910 and Nokia 9300. In addition DataViz has also confirmed its commitment to develop RoadSync for both Symbian s60 3rd edition and UIQ 3.0.

Symbian OS phones are growing in popularity. As of Q3 2005, Symbian OS phone shipments grew more than 131% compared to the same quarter last year.  According to technology analyst firm Canalys, overall global shipments of smartphones are up 183% year on year in Q3 2005 with Symbian emerging as the market leader.

The following new features will be available in RoadSync for Symbian OS based UIQ and Series 80 smartphones when installed in combination with the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2:

Seamless Direct Push Technology

Support for Direct Push Technology ensures that the device automatically receives new e-mail and other PIM data from a company's Exchange Server. RoadSync uses a HTTP connection with industry-standard SSL encryption to securely push e-mail, calendar and contact notifications to and from the device.

Remote Wipe Security Feature

Through central device management tools included with Exchange Server, IT managers can trigger a remote wipe that removes all of the Exchange data from the device. This new security feature will help to ensure corporate data is not compromised when devices are lost or fall into the wrong hands.

Global Address List (GAL)

Mobile professionals can access their company address book, also known as GAL, over the air when composing e-mail messages. This feature is especially helpful when sending e-mails to colleagues while away from the office.

Additional Data Compression

The RoadSync client communicates with the Exchange Server 2003 (SP2) providing a list of supported data formats. In return the server intelligently responds to the request with a compressed data format (when available) that the device can use. This translates in a faster experience when sending and receiving messages, less data usage and reduced sync times.

DataViz will also be showcasing Documents To Go, featuring InTact Technology for Symbian OS devices. This award-winning mobile Office suite allows users to access and edit Microsoft Office documents and e-mail attachments on a variety of mobile devices, including the Sony Ericsson P910, Nokia 9300 smartphone and Palm Treo 650. Documents To Go supports the following platforms: Symbian OS based UIQ, Symbian OS based Series 80 and Palm OS.

RoadSync for UIQ and Series 80 is available directly from DataViz for $99.99.
