"Sleek" was what was brought to mind when I first checked out Nokia 6125. With the antenna conspicuously absent and slim lines along the side, including a cover just for the micro SD card, the latest clamp-shell mobile phone from Nokia is said to be targeted at the mid-range market.

Music Player & Voice Recorder: Supports MP3, FM Radio

This still requires the attachment of the hands free set to enable it to work. The phone does not come with any sample of MP3 clips nor additional memory card so this feature should work as it said in the user manual. It does however point to the fact that the default phone memory is simply not enough to store one single clip and makes it essential to purchase the micro SD card to utilize all its features.

With the voice recorder, the quality is quite poor as tested with just acoustic playing of the guitar and it was not able to pick up on the notes hence rendering the function almost useless with the poor quality.

The phone comes with the bluetooth, Infra-red and USB connection to talk to other devices. The transfer of the clips and pictures can be achieve easily if you've paired your computer with the phone, as the standard package does not come with the cable connection and it is rather painful to transfer it via infra-red, even if you computer comes equipped with one.

What's good:

  • Great keypad and sleek design.
  • 5-ways navigation button well-positioned to enable smooth selection of menu.
  • Have both main and external mini display, though display support only till 262k and 65K colours respectively.
  • Battery life was about 4 days with normal voice/SMS usage, including standby time. Voice quality was normal with no exceptional deviation from that of other handsets.

What's not so good:

  • We feel it should be equipped with the basic configuration (ie larger phone memory) to utilize all features. Additional memory has to be obtained and this creates a "short-changed" impression.

The amount of features present in Nokia 6125 does present a value-buy for the price it is retailing for, but the overall thought given in designing the phone besides the fact that it comes with limited phone memory is that there are no dedicated multimedia buttons except for the camera. Standby time proves to be good, but with no particular need nor ability to use all the multimedia features it touts of, perhaps that's why it lasted so long.
