Say hi to the latest Nokia 6131. This clamshell phone is encased in a layer of soft touch paint that feels like rubber, and flips open with a press of the button at the top right hand side of the phone. Quite a smooth idea, but closing it back is not as easy. If you try to do it with one hand, you will feel as if the phone is going to slip and drop anytime. When it's closed, this phone is quite compact, only 92 mm long and 48 mm wide. It's also very light at 102g.

This phone comes with an external mini display that shows off TFT 262k colours in 128 x 160 pixels. The camera's lens is just on top of this screen. So if you want to take self-portraits, you can see your face on the mini display. Inside, the clamshell is boosted with its huge QVGA 16.7 million "true" colour main display (320 x 240 pixels) that's about 3.5 x 4.5 cm.

The on-off button is at the right side, and there's also a camera button there, so you can easily turn your phone into a camera without having to open the shell.

The 1.3 megapixel camera comes with 8x zoom and an impressive range of options. You can set the image quality to 3 different levels, basic, normal or high. You can also have 6 choices of image size, from 120 x 160 to 1024 x 1280 pixels. Similarly, you can choose between a few clip quality and size for video recordings. There are also 5 different colour effects, like "sepia" and "negative", that you can apply to both the still and video cameras. The still camera comes with the basic functions like night mode and a 10-second self-timer but doesn't come with flash. There's also image sequencing which allows you to take 3 shots with a single click. The 6131 has a PictBridge printing solution which allows the user to connect their phone to a compatible printer using a USB cable & print their photos very simply.

The phone runs very fast on the Series 40 user interface. There is no waiting time at all as you jump from one screen to another.
