When I first got this phone, my first instinct was to try very hard to pry it open. I couldn’t see any keypad or screen so they must be inside, right? After much poking, I managed to uncover the slot for the sim card at one of the long sides, but I still didn’t know how to turn it on.

By now, I’ve realised that I can’t tear the phone apart and there’s really no keypad on this phone. Instead, on the mirror, you can find an orange “select” button, circled by a bi-directional dial or spinner sandwiched between 2 arcs at the top and bottom.

These arcs are really key buttons. The top arc brings you to the phone book and the “Go to” shortcuts. The bottom arc has the “call” and “end call” buttons. The orange centre leads to the list menu of its series 40 UI, which you can turn the dial to walk through. I got no qualms at all navigating like this. In fact, I find myself cruising around smoothly with the ergonomic dial-and-select construction.

For those of you who want more speed and convenience, some features like radio on-and-off and profile types can be activated by voice commands. Just press and hold down the top left arc to speak.
