When I first got this phone, my first instinct was to try very hard to pry it open. I couldn’t see any keypad or screen so they must be inside, right? After much poking, I managed to uncover the slot for the sim card at one of the long sides, but I still didn’t know how to turn it on. When I first got this phone, my first instinct was to try very hard to pry it open. I couldn’t see any keypad or screen so they must be inside, right? After much poking, I managed to uncover the slot for the sim card at one of the long sides, but I still didn’t know how to turn it on.
All I had was a lipstick-shaped object that looks like a mirror on one side and a camera on the other, and I wasn’t even sure if the battery is already in. It was clearly time to consult the user manual. So I discovered that to turn on the phone, you had to press and hold down the “end call” button on the right of the bottom arc. Soon, viola, the mirror magically displays the Nokia welcome screen and the whole mystery is solved.
As it turns out, there is a 104 x 208 pixels display screen embedded within the mirror. It’s only 30mm x 15mm, meant to be viewed while holding the phone horizontally. It’s 16bit colour display, but you can’t really see all the colours in the tiny space. There’s also a problem of poor visibility under bright sunlight. But it’s very stylish, especially the way the screen gradually dims down after a few seconds of inactivity. It conserves battery and looks like an innocent mirror at all times. On the whole, the phone is very compact. It’s only 114mm x 30mm wide, and 20mm thick. It weighs only 80g so you can put it a loose pocket without feeling your pants drop.
