The long awaited iPhone is now available, but it's not an Apple product. Cisco holds the rights to the iPhone and it's a VoIP phone.

The long awaited iPhone has emerged, but it's not from Apple, it's from Cisco. SHOCKER! The hype started years ago and boiled over when Brain Lam of Gizmodo played a joke on everyone and said it would launch on December 18th of this year. Various websites and forms have devoted their entire existence to various iPhone models they suspect Apple would release. Geeks bought domains and created forms because they were absolutely sure Apple would release the highly anticipated iPhone. Guess again. Since the "iPhone" is not an Apple product, what is it? The iPhone is a VoIP Skype phone with Linksys scripted over the device and telephony kit.

The $180 dollar dual-mode Internet phone is for Skype and is a basic Skype handset. Wow, sarcastically. Also announced is the $200 iPhone Wireless G phone for Skype which is something I wouldn't mind carrying around if the entire city were blanketed with wifi coverage. It's a candy-white phone with subtle curves and it fits nicely in the palm of the average user.

I have to say, this was a disappointment but it's more of an April fools joke, even though it's not April, to the millions of fans who thought Apple owned the rights to the term iPhone. The CIT400 (far above) and the WIP320 (below) are your iPhone so act surprised. I'm guessing more fans were attracted to the thought of having an iPhone by Apple and that's what makes this so disappointing. This is what happens when you jump the gun on buying domain names. VoIP has a new hallmark; the iPhone.

So, when is the Apple Phone releasing? Only time will tell.
