Gizmodo's prediction was right, but wasn't right on what we expected. Linksys today unveiled its iPhone family of Voice over IP (VoIP) solutions. The products include already announced Skype VoIP phones and 2 new VoIP phone products. "As the next generation of handheld devices, Linksys iPhone voice solutions and products are changing the way people communicate with their friends, family and colleagues. They enable compelling internet services, allow consumers to know when their contacts are available for calls, and offer access to personal content like music, movies and live video cameras." said Mike Pocock, Linksys senior vice president and general manager.
The new Linksys cordless Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit CIT400 with Skype comes with the handset, charger, and a Base Station that plugs into your broadband network and to the standard telephone line plug. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn or standard telephone call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. Dual-Mode capability lets you choose whether to make calls over a standard telephone line or with Skype.
The new Linksys Wireless-G Phone WIP320 for Skype comes with pre-loaded Skype. You are can use Skype anywhere you have wireless Internet access.
