The WiFi skype VoIP mobile phone from Netgear is now available in Amazon as a pre-order item. It will be start shipping from 30th June, which is 2 more months to go.

Everyone is getting in on the whole Skype experience, and it’s quite understandable why. Cell phones and even regular home lines can become quite a financial burden, and since almost everyone has high speed internet, talking for free online is a great solution. The problem is that the service requires a person to be at home to use it. Well, there came a solution to this problem as well. Companies started making cell phones dedicated to this type of service, with Netgear now being one of them.

The SPH101 phone from Netgear is unique in one very important aspect: Wi-Fi support. If you’re in a hot spot with an 802.11 connection and you have one of these handy, you’re in luck. In other words, you can place calls when you’re no where near a PC! Simply enter your username and password, and you’re free to make calls to anyone with Skype.

What happens if the person doesn’t have Skype? You’ll probably still be able to reach them, as the phone supports both Skypein and Skypeout. Everything else looks and feels like a cellphone with a Skype twist to it. For example, like in a cell phone, you can adjust your Contacts, although hear they’ll be your friends from Skype. It can even forward calls to a land line, mobile phone or other Skype account!

Currently, the unit is available for pre-order at a price of $250. Considering that the regular price is $300, this sounds like a pretty good deal. If you can wait until June 30th to get your hands on the SPH101, now would be a really good time to take advantage of such an offer. For any Skype fan, the SPH101 looks like a real must have item. A dedicated enough person can make this thing work as their ordinary phone, skipping out on cell phones and land lines all together! It works out awesome financially as you’ll pay $250 once for unlimited talking.
