McFadden Associates today announces the availability of a free software application designed to extend and enhance the range of services available via Cisco IP Phones.

The Open 79XX XML Directory is a content management system for the storage of contacts and telephone numbers. Using the Cisco (7900 Series) IP Phone and the Open XML Directory, users can easily manage a contact database and company directory available on the screen of any phone within an organization. The Open XML Directory software runs on any PHP enabled web server and uses a MySQL database to store its information.

Software features include:

• Clean, user-friendly web interface.
• Security settings implementation on phone and web interface.
• Restrict a phone's access to certain parts of the directory.
• Create an unlimited number of contacts.
• Organize contacts into categories, and organize categories into containers.
• Search directory for contacts via the phone interface.
• Set status of phone via phone interface.
• Send memos to phones using web interface.
• Help sections for each web interface page.

McFadden Associates is pleased to release this application as an open source project hosted by Sourceforge under the General Public License (GPL). Under this arrangement, users are free to download, use, and extend the application with few restrictions.
