Now you would not love to receive SMS any more. Relatives of the patients who die in the local hospital learn about their family member's death through an SMS message, something that experts in ethical matters consider inadmissible, the daily Mlada fronta Dnes writes today. Ceske Budejovice hospital director Bretislav Shon says he finds nothing unethical about this practice. He says this is a modern and the quickest possible method of delivering information all over the world. Moreover, the patient has to give his/her consent to such method of informing his/her family. "If the patient does not sign it, we let the relatives know otherwise. A telegram that lacks any human attributes and often arrives with a huge delay, is incomparably more expensive, SMSs are quick, and money-saving. More money is left for the hospital," Shon says in the daily. Read via textually.org |
