QUALCOMM announced the availability of the first handset in Europe based on QUALCOMM's uiOne solution. The O2 Ice handset is available from O2 in UK.

This is the first time that uiOne has been deployed on a commercially available device in Europe, marking an important milestone for uiOne in the European wireless device market.  O2 selected uiOne as part of its strategy to design and develop its own brand of devices that are both fashionable and highly functional.  With uiOne, O2 customers can now consider their mobile devices as not only a means of communication, but also an extension of themselves. The uiOne-enabled O2 Ice handset is now available at O2 stores, as well as at major retailers in the UK.

The BREW solution drives the discovery and delivery of wireless data services.  BREW customers can benefit from several offerings, which include: uiOne for rich, integrated and dynamic user experiences with fast access to high revenue services on wireless devices; deliveryOne for differentiated and tightly integrated, operator-managed support and delivery of advanced wireless data content and services; and marketOne for a quick-to-market, hosted, scalable content delivery service that includes media titles, flexible management and monetization, content provider settlement and business
intelligence services.

The O2 Ice costs from £99 on pre pay and is available at a range of prices (dependent on tariff and subject to availability) for pay monthly customers. For those early bird Christmas shoppers, the O2 Ice can be purchased exclusively from any O2 retail store during September, and will be available from direct and indirect channels from October.
