The W-Sim is a new technology used by Japanese PHS operator Willcom. The card is much larger than your normal sim card, but it can store your user data and also all the transmission technology needed for a mobile device to work, the built in antenna. By switching the W-SIM around, you can actually use the wireless service on different devices like mobile phone, laptop ... etc.

The latest phone from Will COM is branded as NICO. NICO use W-SIM, has a simple design which remove all the extra multimedia functions except making calls and receiving calls. It comes with an USB gadget, you can simply take out the W-SIM and insert into it. When connected with your laptop or pc, although the USB gadget doesn't have an antenna, you can get connected to the internet since the W-SIM act as an antenna + access information too.

The NICO (WS005IN) is charged/sync via its mini USB interface and will be available from 13th July. Specifications:

  • Size: 45 x 125 x 14.3mm
  • Display: 64k colors
  • Weight: 67 grams
  • Up to 270 hours talk times
  • Up to 410 hours standby times
