Since NEC released their 11.9mm slim phone NEC L1, NEC N500is could tbe the second mobile phone from them in slim mode. The slim phone support GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 mHz and EDGE network for fast connection. though there is no info on the thickness compare to their NEC L1.

The first NEC slim phone NEC L1 is also named as N412i in some countries. The N500is is the improved version of its previous model, and also support i-mode service. The external screen is OLED, placed in landscape way. Other than the usual flat keypad to get as slim as possible, the nagivation pad at the center is also the control of media player. NEC N500is support MP3/AAC/AAC+ music file, and memory storage is expandable through memory card.
