- Digital Act has announced finalized Japanese release plans for its peripheral that turns the Game Boy Advance into a video phone. The company will release Campho Advance to Japan on 7/30 at a price of 19,000 yen.

Once plugged into the cartridge slot of a Game Boy Advance, Campho Advance provides the GBA will all the functionality needed for video conferencing. The red Campho Advance unit has a camera and a slot for connecting to a standard analogue telephone. Plug the unit into a phone line, plug in the included AC adapter, and you're ready to go. Control over the phone is handled with the GBA buttons. Phone numbers can be saved to memory included with the unit.

The camera has a resolution of 110,000 pixels, offering a frame rate of five frames per second. In addition to showing footage of the person on the other end of the line, the GBA displays footage of the user, so you can make sure you look good. Note that the unit works fine with either version of the Game Boy Advance, with software used to flip the image around if needed.

Digital Act plans on producing just 10,000 units of this device for the 7/30 release date. Those looking for one will have to go through the Digital Act website, as a full retail release date has yet to be set.
