Verizon Wireless Enabling Ads On News, Weather, Sports, And Other Content. Following Sprint's lead, Verizon Wireless will allow ads on their mobile phones in 2007. The advertisements will be placed on news, weather, sports, and mobile Internet sites that visitors surf. Execs at Verizon see this as a move that will make "significant dollars", according to their vice president of marketing and digital media. Honestly, this decision was long overdue and the way of the future for service providers. Cingular has no comment but they will eventually give in to the practice of advertising on mobile devices.![]() Verizon also states that their system will remove "certain types of video clips" and it will limit where ads are placed. Only time will tell if this is true. These onslaught of advertisements are said to begin in 2007 with ads on users' mobile content. This rapid and aggressive marketing scheme will most likely bring in the bucks but it could hurt the company's image. Sprint did it but no one seems to care. Verizon customers, in my opinion, are a different type of demographic and with the title "one of the largest service providers", they might have to change their philosophy to appease customers.
