This story is completely unrelated to our focus, however every once in a while there's a story worth writing about! Microsoft unleased the wrath of their lawyers on a 17-year-old Canadian high student, Mike Rowe, demanding the handover of the domain name www.mikerowesoft.com. Yeap, this is no joke! Microsoft has claimed that the phonetic domain infringes its copyright and demand that Mike hand over his Internet domain or face the consequences. He felt extremely insulted when he got an offer of $10.00 (I wonder if this is canadian or US dollar) for the domain. Honestly, if it was me, I would have told Microsoft to shove the offer where the sun don't shine (that's just me). Mike did the right thing by taking this to the press and make it public - as we all know, I am sure there are tons of lawyers who would love to "beat a win" out of Microsoft. I can already see the headlines MICROSOFT PICKS ON 17-YEAR-OLD STUDENT FOR DOMAIN NAME . Yes, this will indeed go very well with the whole world. We will have to wait and see who will win. Perhaps this is one battle Microsoft may have to back away from. I am personally cheering for this kid! Who do you think? Cast your vote here . |
